EJC 2008 in Karlsruhe

Running an EJC means providing infrastructure for a few thousand people - from dixi toilets to circus tents, from registration to catering. In Karlsruhe, up to 100 jugglers took care of setup and take down - here are the pictures.

Here's a selection of all the pictures we've taken at EJC 2008 - shows, games and parade as well as site and daily EJC life. If that's not enough, please have a look at our link section below for even more pictures!

Five days before the convention, a small crew of about 30 people started with various tasks - setting up the first big top, fencing the campsites, preparing the decoration, and many many more...

Setup continues, including the not-so-obvious tasks: coordination of the setup, catering for the setup crew, and running the office. At the end of the day, the first big top for shows and the bar tent are up!

Half of the setup is over, and there's still a lot of work to do. To stay on time, an extra shift is called after the evening meal - as all different day tasks are already finished, the whole crew works together on setting up the second big top.

Just short of a hundred people are working for the EJC by now - and working for eight hours a day gets you quite hungry, so everybody enjoys the buffets for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Just for comparison: alone the three meals a day for the setup crew equal the food which is eaten at a mid-sized convention!

The last day before the convention! With all the "big" jobs finished, everyone is busy with last preparations for a great EJC. While more and more jugglers already arrive, the completely decorated bar-tent opens in the evening for a "We made it!"-pary with the whole crew.

Take-down of EJC 2008 - Monday, 11.08. (Bild 22) Take-down of EJC 2008 - Monday, 11.08.

The convention has ended, thousands of jugglers have gone home again - but someone has to stay to take everything down. So there's a whole crew of volunteers back to work once again. At least, taking down the big tops is much faster than setting them up...

Take-down of EJC 2008 - Sunday, 12.08. (Bild 10) Take-down of EJC 2008 - Sunday, 12.08.

Tuesday, end of the convention + 2 days: round lunch, most of the take-down crew is on their way home. In the afternoon, as soon as disposing of the garbage and driving away stuff are the only tasks left, there's no more take-down coordination, photographing and whatsoever - all hands work on site, and at 22 o'clock the remaining crew of 12 people meet for one last EJC-dinner.
